The Bill Sharp Scholarship Award

The Sharp Award, sponsored by JWT North America and JWT Atlanta, recognizes excellence in marketing, advertising and media by awarding one (1) student a $3,500 scholarship.

The Sharp Award is named after Advertising Legend and industry diversity pioneer, William “Bill” Sharp. His Basic Ad Course and lasting devotion to helping young African American students find careers in the advertising industry was the inspiration for the creation of The Marcus Graham Project. Founded by Lincoln Stephens, The Marcus Graham Project is a national, non-profit association dedicated to providing resources for today’s diverse youth that will strategically develop a viable pool of talent and leadership within the industry. Bill Sharp was a board member.  In honor of Bill Sharp, JWT North America will award one student a scholarship to help financially support the pursuit of a career in the advertising field.

*The 2017 award will be presented on August 7th at the 4A’s Face of Talent Evening Reception.

 

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT:  JULY 8, 2017 

 

ELIGIBILITY

In partnership with the 4A’s &The Marcus Graham Project, the Sharp Award is open to MAIP and MGP current participants and Alumni only. 

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for the scholarship, applicants must submit the following to hrcommunications@jwt.com:

  • A PDF document which includes General Information and a response to four essay questions (500 words or less per question):
    • Describe your past and current experience and involvement in the advertising, marketing or media industry. Be sure to mention any leadership and/or mentorship roles you have held.
    • What are your career goals, both short and long term? How do you plan to achieve these goals?
    • How do you plan to use this financial support should you be awarded the scholarship?
    • Why is diversity important in your industry?
  • Current resume (1 page)
  • One letter of recommendation
  • If pursuing a Creative path, personal portfolio of 5-10 creative samples (one compiled PDF no larger than 5 mb)

 

*Travel and expenses will be provided to Sharp Award recipient
